It is a myth that all gay men have a style gene. Have you actually watched Queer Eye? These guys are coasting on their cruising. Certainly, there are professions that are traditionally practiced by men who love men, such as hairstyling and interior decoration, but these are professions that are inherently flamboyant and noticeable. There are also lots of gay truckers, accountants, and military men. (Shhh…) Hopefully, as we march into the future singing inspirational songs, we'll learn to dispense with such easy stereotypes and take each other for what we are, not what we're expected to be. Would you have expected Achilles or Alexander the Great to help you redecorate? Take your style-challenged nephew to John Allan's on East 46th Street in Manhattan and get him a cut, manicure, and highlights, then take him to the Oyster Bar at Grand Central.
