How to Defeat Swamp Crotch for Good

Source:

We've got some advice on dealing with swamp crotch, because it’s one thing to get really sweaty from physical activity—at least we can anticipate this happening. But every summer it's always a shock how normal daily activity can generate sweat in the nether region. And no matter what cursed name you give it (swamp crotch, swamp ass—you get the picture), sitting in your own sweat is not pleasant, and it gets worse as the weather gets hot and humid. So, as much as we crave the brighter days and blue skies, many of us also dread summer: Swamp crotch season is nigh.

It doesn't have to be this way. With a few simple habits and products, you'll be dry as a bone, cool as a cucumber—even when the temperature climbs.

The Best Ways to Keep Your Undercarriage Dry and Comfortable

1. Use an Anti-Chafe Powder, Spray, or Lotion

After your morning shower—after you’ve dried off entirely—apply a moisture-absorbing product to the area. This usually has some kind of powdery quality, whether it’s delivered as a lotion, spray, or directly as a powder—which one you chose is just a matter of preference. Some guys like to sprinkle a tingling powder onto into their skivvies, while others find it easier to layer some lotion over everything. Ideally, you’ll choose a talc-free option—there are plenty of tapioca starch and cornstarch products. These are the two we like best:

2. Wear Breathable, Moisture-Wicking Fabrics

The clothes you wear play a huge role in how ventilated your nether regions are. If the idea is to keep things cool and dry, you don't want to suffocate. So, wear loose underwear and pants, made with breathable, moisture-wicking fabrics. For underwear, that doesn’t mean you can’t wear briefs or boxer briefs/trunks; it simply means they should be appropriately sized and not clenching the skin. It also means synthetic fabrics that push moisture outward are best. And while we don’t expect you to wear nylon pants, you can choose some loose, breathable cotton as opposed to a pair of skinny jeans or leather on hot days.

3. Don’t Shave

A lot of guys mistakenly think that their pubes worsen a sweaty situation. The reality is the opposite: Body hair helps regulate sweat and prevent chafing. So, while it’s perfectly fine to trim it and keep it “presentable” (if you will), try to keep an inch or more of length if possible, so that the hair can still serve its functional purpose.

4. Monitor How Much You Sit

If you frequently get swamp crotch from sitting hours on end, then here’s a simple fix: Stand up! Set a timer for every 45 minutes or an hour. Get a standing desk. Go to the bathroom. Go gossip with your coworkers. Just get on your feet, get some air flowing through there, and let the skin breathe.

5. Ventilate Your Environment

Speaking of ventilation: Try keeping the room cool. Point a fan at yourself. Turn on the A/C. Sit on a cushioned seat instead of a hard one. Open a window or door to get a breeze flowing.

6. Audit Your Sweating

If you’ve tried all of the above, then take note of every time you still get sweaty. Ask yourself “what did I do, feel, or consume in the last hour that could have caused this?” Were you anxious? Did you eat something spicy? Did you drink too much hot coffee? If you can pinpoint the thing that sent your body into a wet frenzy, then maybe you can avoid repeat occurrences in the future.
