Pharrell Dropped His Morning Skin-Care Routine

Source:

Back in September, DeAndre Hopkins revealed that his best skin-care advice came from Pharrell. But where does the sage of skin care get his advice for a smooth complexion? The powerhouse duo of Naomi Campbell and his very own dermatologist, Elena Jones, MD.

In the latest episode of Grooming Gods, Pharrell, who is famously aging in reverse, confessed he didn’t take great care of his skin before he met Dr. Elena. “She made me start to think about things differently,” he recalls. “That’s when I developed my understanding that skin care is a necessity. Your face is the expression of your personality—you gotta take care of it.”

Then, of course, there’s Naomi, who sent Pharrell to a dermatologist in the first place and taught him how to properly wash his face in upward circles. And though Naomi is clearly responsible for the ageless wonder that is Pharrell’s face, the mogul himself has picked up a few good habits of his own along the way—enough to launch his own skin-care line, Humanrace.

In honor of his line's big release, we asked Pharrell a few of our most burning skin-care questions, and he dropped his morning routine, his hydration secrets, and more essential tips for keeping your skin in supermodel shape.

Cleanse Like Naomi

Pharrell combines a few shakes of his Humanrace powder with water, then lathers it into a foam. “The foamy sensation lets you know it’s working,” he says. Massage the cleanser in upward circles: “Naomi would tell me, ‘Never go downward.’ ”

Exfoliate Like There’s No Tomorrow

“I’m always talking about exfoliating like a madman,” Pharrell says. (DeAndre Hopkins can confirm.) The lotus enzyme in his exfoliator rejuvenates the skin, while the glycolic acid sloughs off all those dead layers. “You see that? Glowing.”

Humidify Your Pores

“Dr. Elena says a pea size,” Pharrell says, squeezing out an appropriately portioned drop to moisturize after exfoliating.

“All I drink is water,” Pharrell says. His favorites are Flow for still and Waterloo for sparkling, but he warns getting hooked on those Waterloo flavors is a slippery slope: “Stopping is the problem.”
