"After the Fire" (2024) is the new mural by Nani Chacon, Tatyana Fazlalizadeh, and Layqa Nuna Yawar painted by the entrance of MoMA PS1 in Queens, NY. The mural was created through a collaborative process that began as a series of workshops with local Queens community groups: Transform America, Make the Road, and members of the Shinnecock, Unkechaug, and Matinecock Nations. According to the museum, “Participants discussed elements of society that they would leave behind in service of imagining a more just world. These conversations recognized the ways in which the pandemic laid bare existing racial, environmental, and economic disparities.” (photo Kris Grave, courtesy the artists)
