I’m not into soap on the face; I use facial cleansers from Kiehl’s, as well as masks and moisturizers. These don’t seem to bother the beard. Then again, my beard is not a heroic, long-lasting thing; it gets mowed regularly, like a lawn. Somehow I suspect you are using the wrong shampoo. Why not try baby shampoo? It will be free of anything irritating or, for that matter, anything foul tasting. Remember, for some guys the mustache is the “soup strainer.“
