And you thought your old-timey barber was a badass. Alberto Olmedo is a Madrid-based hairdresser who uses Samurai swords, a blowtorch, and finger scissors (just like Edward Scissorhands) to cut his patron’s hair. In a video posted by AJ+, Olmedo admits the process is “medieval” but appears to interpret that as a good thing. He explains that the Samurai sword technique—which involves swiping two swords in opposite directions in the back of someone’s head—achieves more “mathematical” results, allowing him to cut the hair on both sides at the same time. An explanation for the blowtorch isn’t provided in the video, but all we can think about is the smell, which must rival a thousand dead cats. We’re guessing the finger scissors are the instrument of choice for Olmedo’s male clients. Not be a square about it, but we just hope this man has insurance.
