Whether you’re flying 18 hours to Singapore or taking a quick cross-country jaunt, most travelers, us included, end the journey looking like a disheveled mess. Puffy skin, crumpled hair, dry mouth--flying brings out the ugly in everyone. But it’s not impossible to deplane looking like your grounded dapper self. (Case in point, Gosling looking fresh to death above.) Just take note of these in-flight grooming cues:

1. Skip salty foods the day of your flight to minimize bloat and make sure you hydrate with plenty of bottled water (or better yet, coconut water for an electrolyte boost) on board to hydrate and keep skin from looking sallow.

2. The same hydrating rule goes for your outsides--combat arid cabin air with a heavy-duty moisturizer like Clinique For Men’s Maximum Hydrator, and reapply every few hours. Lip balm (try Jack Black’s Intense Therapy Lip Balm) is essential.

3. Got a snooze in? Your circulation likely slowed down, which can lead to pools of fluid under your eyes (ie: bags.) Rub Garnier’s Skin Renew Anti-Puff Eye Roller a few times under your eye from the inner corner to the outer corner as needed. (Ice cubes from the beverage cart work well, too.)

4. It doesn’t matter when you last washed it--hair will still feel dirty and look deflated when you walk off the jet. Blame the billions of microbes living on your headrest. For a little added volume and less grease, spritz a dry shampoo like Psssst Instant Spray Shampoo throughout locks.

5. Unless you’re Jay Z there’s probably not a shower on board. Wipe the grime off your face with Ursa Major Essential Face Wipes, which will get rid of shine, calm skin, and give your complexion a boost.

6. There’s a reason they call ’em red eye flights. Visine is your friend.
