Peter and Harry Brant's (sons of supermodel legend Stephanie Seymour) just-announced Mac collaboration is hitting the internet today. Yes, Mac is in the makeup store at the mall. And yes, it's for men, too. The news broke when Harry dropped the above photo on Instagram. Men's makeup isn't exactly a new thing. Our own Drew Magary posed the question of whether it will really catch on not that long ago, and admitted that it does make you look better. Naturally, that's the whole point of makeup. But, it's inherently feminine, which makes it a fairly uncharted, yet beautiful ocean. We're still dipping our mostly unpedicured toes in it. But this endorsement from a huge brand like Mac might suggest that maybe, in fact, it is catching on?
Men's grooming has certainly boomed in the past few years, and our medicine cabinets are now full of washes, scrubs, masks, cleansers, and toners of all kinds. That's all in the name of cleaning up our skin and having nice clean faces, but makeup is obviously a different beast (beauty?). Of course, guys like David Bowie, Carson Daly, and Gene Simmons have been experimenting with cosmetics for years—on camera, on stage, or on the street. They're famous guys, though. They can do literally whatever they want. The products coming with this collab are more mainstream and everyday: a brow finisher, a cream base, and a concealer palette. According to Mac (I'm not too familiar with cosmetics TBH) the brow finisher is "a slimline wax-style grooming tool specially formulated to shape and hold the brows in place while providing them with a sheer, slick, polished and conditioned-looking finish." The cream base supposedly evens out the tone in your face, and concealer, well, it conceals.
Raising an unfinished brow at all this? Well, we're hardly shocked. Like we said, this is all pretty new. But, you know, it's 2015, so let your freak flag fly and don't go burning somebody else's if you happen to see it waving. And who knows, maybe 30 years from now we'll be seeing MacBro shops in the mall. (Adding "Bro" makes it okay!)
If you're interested in trying it out, Fashionista reports that the products will be available online today.
