Jake Gyllenhaal is currently serving the best kind of jury duty at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, where the actor will spend the next few days judging films in the main competition alongside Sienna Miller, the Coen Brothers, Guillermo Del Toro and others. With the event officially underway as of today, Jake showed up in a sharp peak-lapel suit, black shirt, silver necklace, Ray-Ban wayfarers, and some beautifully slicked back hair, completing his "rich European guy" look. You may think that such a perfectly flowy ’do requires a round-the-clock personal groomer, but you can also look like a man of luxury—the kind of man who leisures in the South of France and indulges in high-art cinema—in just three easy steps.

1. Know When to Part, Know When to Slick Though Jake is a few weeks away from man-bun hair length, he’s still go enough up top that his hair easily throws back and sits casually on his head. If it were any shorter, he’d run the risk of strays spiking out in all sorts of directions. The best way to test if your hair is long enough to be pushed back rather than parted is to make sure you can do it when your hair is completely dry. It may go back right when you get out of the shower, but wet hair moves differently and can be deceptive.

2. Pomade with Sheen Will Make You Shine Like a Star Here, the Nightcrawler-star nailed the perfect hair balance between frizzy Bar Mitzvah boy and greasy mafia hitman. All that comes down to is the right hair product. American Crew’s Pomade with High Shine is an oil-based product that will keep your hair smooth and silky throughout the day, but won’t appear slimy after a tough afternoon of shrimp eating, yachting, and beach strolling.

**3. Get in the Grooves ** We know most guys associate pocket combs with Travolta in Grease, but it’s exactly what you need if you’re trying to look like a jet-setting, model-dating A-lister. Once your locks are all pomade’d up, use the side of the comb (like this one from Mason Pearson) with the wider grooves to push the hair up, then back (which will give it a nice shape and flow.) Then, gently run your hands through the hair, which will make it appear less calculated. Keep the comb in the pocket of your jacket to fix it up throughout the day, mainly by making sure loose strands don’t start to fall towards your face, which could quickly send you into Leonardo DiCaprio in Titanic territory.
