We all want a fresh lineup or a skin fade or even just an inch off the top right now, but the ongoing pandemic has obviously made it either inadvisable or illegal to get into a barbershop.
Take New York-based comedian and musician Daddy Ramazani, who says he has been looking "crusty" during quarantine. He decided to do something about it, and enlisted his brother Ben to cut his hair. A risky maneuver! But he also had some help. On the other side of the Atlantic, Mark Maciver of Slidercuts Studios in London was ready and willing to provide step-by-step instructions. Daddy asked for a #1 buzz on top with a skin fade on the sides, which calls for the hair to be gradually tapered until it disappears into the skin. It's tougher than your average buzz-cut. But expectations were not sky-high. The ultimate goal, according to Daddy, was to prevent his hairline from getting "any worse than it already is."
If you're also in desperate need of a fade, and you have the necessary clippers in addition to a trustworthy quarantine partner/friend/roommate, then by all means, see if you can convince them to follow along with the video below. You'll learn Maciver's rapid clippers-and-comb motion for a smooth transition—as Daddy learned, it's more than just barber's showmanship for a better tip.
Alternatively, if you just want to see what happens when a guy with no experience tried to give his brother a skin fade, that's cool with us too.
