With over 22,000 followers on Twitter, a passion for motorcycles, and some major facial hair, Kiehl’s President Chris Salgardo isn’t your traditional boardroom ec. But given the company has barely spent a dime on traditional advertising (and instead raises a ton of money for charity), the skincare aficionado seems to have the grooming industry by the roots. Here’s a look at how the CEO leaves his house fresh-faced every morning. (Surprise: it includes a ton of Kiehl’s products.)
THE SHAVE: I like to shave before getting in the shower. I take a hot washcloth to my face to raise the hairs up a bit, apply a cream (Kiehl’s Ultimate Brushless Shave Cream) and shave using downward strokes. A lot of guys don’t groom their beard right—the hair should stop a few inches down from your chin for a full and sculpted look, not at the jawline, which can accentuate a wobbly neck. I use Wahl beard clippers to trim my beard. They’re the best.
THE FACE: I have oily skin so I’m a big believer in toners. After showering I apply Kiehl’s Cucumber Herbal Alcohol-Free Toner, followed by Kiehl’s Eye Alert. I get under eye bags from lack of sleep, and as long as they’re not hereditary you can do something about them. The last thing I use is Kiehl’s Facial Fuel UV Guard SPF 50+ for moisture and sun protection.
THE HAIR: I feel like you don’t want to fuss too much with your hair or you run the risk of damaging it, so I shampoo about once every four days. I do give myself a nice scalp massage every morning in the shower, though, to stimulate the hair follicles to grow. Even though I have a pretty nice head of hair, my dermatologist recommended I use Rogaine Unscented Foam for preventative reasons. For styling I’ve used Kiehl’s Créme with Silk Groom in my hair every day since like, 1990, which is this great moisturizer. If I want a more matte look I’ll use Shu Uemura Art of Hair Clay Definer, it holds your hair like glue. And if I want more shine with less hold I like Shu Uemura Art of Hair Shape.
**THE BODY:** If I’m traveling the one product I always take is the Kiehl’s Cross-Terrain All-In-One Refueling Wash. It’s got shampoo, shave, everything all-in-one and I love the scent.
THE FRAGRANCE: I’m not a huge fragrance person; I like it to be really light. When I do wear something, it’s Chanel Eau de Cologne for daytime, and Kiehl’s Musk Eau de Toilette Spray for evening.
